Priced at $11.98 at Lowe's- Sunrise and Greenback, Citrus Heights, CA. Regardless of your preference for backyard styling and your planting ideals, the effect a Queen Palm has on a landscape is unmistakable! A sense of being on vacation and easy living comes to mind right off the bat. And aside from the color it brings to a yard-scape it also maintains its beauty year round...Planting evergreen is very important if you want to maximize your dollar when choosing your flora. That isn't to say you don't get your money's worth if you plant deciduous trees, that shed their leaves come winter. It's just that if you can supplement with plantings that don't, you will enjoy your yard more of the time. In my opinion this is money well spent.
Now if you live in a climate where Queen Palms will survive, then it is possible you have taken the time to price them. Personally I have watched these little friends closely with every visit to a store that has a garden section, because frankly I am a bit obsessed with them, not to mention with the designing of my landscape. I could literally spend hours shopping for plants and trees and hours deciding the best possible place in my yard to plant them. I have even been known to plant a whole yard full of plants and then dig them up and rearrange them a week later...
Given my seemingly limitless amount of energy available for planting and "researching" (as I like to call perusing the garden section) I can say with a decent amount of certainty that the prices I found today at Lowe's for these beauties is a home run! $11.98 for the gallon size. Now this is not a huge plant, but with the fronds it stands 6 feet in height approximately, giving you a bit of instant stay-cation-ness to your yard right away. Their tags state they are a fast growing variety, of that I remain optimistic, but can say that the 25 feet or so my last palm was took almost 10 years to achieve.
The enormous palms standing at least 15 or more feet in height were also a very good bargain at only $45. Normally this small sized beauty can't be found for less than $20 and the larger one for $50-$99 usually closer to $99. If you can afford $12 and have a yard to plant them that can provide a hospitable climate for them, definitely do!
